Summary
While Gotham was characteristically rainy and dark, she had her days. That it was sparse and uncommon was granted; but every once in a while the sun would come out just a little more and the moon would shine just a touch brighter. It was on one of those days-- well, nights-- that Bruce ran into the infamous alien. He had worked with him before on occasional league missions, but never bothered to do more than grunt or give a cursory response when he addressed him. Something about the way he presented himself struck Bruce the wrong way.

Bruce may be called the world's greatest detective, but he was actually quite useless when it came to reading people’s intentions when he was involved. He had spent a lot of his childhood among petty friends who took him for granted and wanted nothing more than his money, and that seemed to follow him into adulthood.Or;
Bruce can't seem to get a read on this Superman guy-- but that doesn't stop him from wanting to pick him apart to understand what makes him tick. Or take his clothes off.

Spencer has never had to buy vaseline; or; Dean really can’t keep track of his things. A story about domesticity and the small things that make it happen.
There are little things in life that people take for granted. Mints. Chapstick. Loose paper that always seems to be in your junk drawer. Spencer had one in particular that always appeared to be around just when he needed it: the smallest, strikingly blue, container of vaseline. He would never go looking for them, but they always showed up just when he thought of them. He would walk into the living room and there one would be-- innocuous, small, and blue against the dark background of his old wooden coffee table.

Summary
The imminent return to Evermore has him jumping at shadows, and he is already at the end of his rope. Every ounce of energy every single day goes to pretending to be what is required of him—he has to override years of training (away, not towards) to perform adequately on the court, to uphold the Trojan standard, and he has to pretend that while he does it he is a functioning human and not simply a discarded toy too broken to be played with anymore.
It’s why he spent his time in Palmetto when he could walk watching every single Trojans interview and game he could, so he could memorize their speeches and their strategies and their game play so that he would not be a burden. Jean knows what he owes his new masters. And he will not fail.
