    Summary

There is a very attractive woman in front of Ilya. A woman that wants to fuck him. His body is consciously aware of this very fact, however, his entire brain seems to neglect it, opting to scream look at what’s behind her like a screeching freight train.

On the screen is the dark outline of a person, shot against a blinding sun. Any distinguishable features are obscured, cloaked in dim shadow. Still, Ilya knows exactly who it is.

He would recognize that silhouette anywhere.

Or, Ilya keeps seeing Shane everywhere — on the TV, in advertisements. It may or may not be interfering with his attempts to get laid, and also does nothing to change the fact that he hasn't seen Shane in months.

Set during the 2014-2016 montage era.

    Summary

Shane remembers the way the world tilted, how he stumbled out the door, how the air felt wrong in his lungs. He was laughing, he thinks. At one point. He was crying. He couldn’t tell the difference. Somewhere behind him, Hayden’s footsteps followed, distorted, distant, like they were coming through water.

He remembers thinking, with a terrible and absolute certainty: Ilya is dead.

And then, just as quickly, just as absurdly: I need to talk to Ilya about this.

    -

Or: An alternate/expanded take on the days following the Centaurs' emergency landing, featuring Shane's inability to accept proof, Ilya's stubborn insistence on being alive, and the particular difficulty of loving someone whose heart has had every reason to stop, maybe even before the crash.

    Summary

Someone’s posted a shaky video from the stands, just behind the whole altercation. It’s close enough to catch the snarl on Rozanov’s face as he charges up the steps. He’s so pretty, Shane thinks faintly. The video starts too late to show what set him off, but it catches the tail end of what the man is yelling, the things he's saying about Shane, before pivoting to calling Rozanov a cunt and bitch and a pussy instead.

Rozanov drops his gloves for Shane. He wishes he could just be grateful, but it feels a little bit like the end of the world.

    Summary

“Should call you the Ottawa Puppies,” says the Toronto centre, Svensson. As an insult it makes no sense, so Ilya ignores it, until he continues, “Hear Hollander keeps you on a short leash.”

Ilya is the captain, so if anything, he should be holding the leash. In English, you can be singular or plural, but he knows what Svensson is trying to say. He is saying Ilya Rozanov, you are Hollander’s bitch.

“Only sometimes,” Ilya replies, grinning. He wins the face off.

OR: Ilya trains himself to be a very, very good guard dog for Shane.

    Summary

No one is going to win a Pulitzer interviewing him, and Shane is okay with that. He spends most interviews rephrasing the same five sentiments--I’m happy we won or We need to work harder after that loss.

They are a good team; the win was hard fought or They are a good team; there is a lot for us to take away.

And finally: I love playing on this team, for our fans.

Then Ilya Rozanov bursts into his life, and answering questions becomes a little more complicated.

or: Shane Hollander, interviewee, throughout the years.
