Summary
They met as children on a beach, before they knew what the world would ask of them.
Before war. Before grief. Before duty, blood, and survival carved them into people too sharp to fit beside each other easily.
For a little while, they are only two children at the edge of the sea, beginning something neither of them understood. Then they grow up. Only to find each other in the quiet spaces life leaves behind. They love each other in ways too young to name, then in ways too painful to keep.
Then duty calls, and everything breaks.
Years pass. Lives split. Choices are made that cannot be undone. They become adults with histories, wounds, obligations, and lives built in the absence of each other. But some loves do not end. They wait.
Starts off as a full canon rewrite about Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy. Who then lose each other due to duty and circumstance. Then finally are forced to decide years later whether second chances are worth the pain that is asked of them.

Summary
Returning to Hogwarts for Eighth Year was tougher than Hermione Granger had imagined, without her two best friends at her side it was hard for her to picture what Hogwarts was without them. She was one of few students returning and she understood why, but she had to go back, finish her education as she should have. She hadn’t decided how she was going to deal with seeing the castle again, attending classes with missing students and teachers and getting on with life as normal. She especially hadn't factored in who the other returning Eighth Year students were and how they would impact her life.
"Not surprised to see you here, Granger. But I bet you're surprised to see me"
Draco Malfoy. Surprised was an understatement.
