    Summary

Facing Rio, amidst the emotional turmoil, two physical urges stand out: to throw up and to cry.

What is she supposed to say now? “Sometimes, I still dream about you”? “Why did you leave”? “If someone asked me to choose between you and a worm, I'd definitely choose the worm”? “How many lives have you ruined over the past three years”? “Why the hell does your hair look so good? Can I smell it”?

    "What are you doing here?"

"I was nearby with colleagues and decided to drop by. This is my favorite bar, remember?"

Oh, Agatha remembers all too well. She recalls too many things about Rio that she'd rather erase from her mind — lock them in a chest, toss it into the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and the key into the Atlantic. Just in case. That's what Agatha wants.

    "Barely," Agatha finally replies.

    OR

Three years have passed since Agatha and Rio ended their relationship. Agatha is certain she's moved on—no lingering thoughts, no unresolved feelings. Absolutely. That's true, no doubts. But when Rio re-enters Agatha's life (as if she has every right to), with that goddamn smirk on her beautiful face and that annoying confidence, Agatha's composure is tested.

    Summary

On the third day of Agatha's absence, Jen walked into the staff room, halfway through a bland bagel, when Rio looked up at her with a pout. "Agatha used to get cafeteria bagels," she sniffed.

Jen let out an exasperated breath. "She hasn’t died, Rio. But you might soon, if you don’t get your shit together and stop sulking."

"Here, look," Rio shoved her phone in Jen’s face. "She texted me this half an hour ago." She bit at her fingernail, looking genuinely worried. "Do you think she’s trying to ask me to come take care of her?"

Jen squinted at the screen, reading the message: 'i cant find tortilla chips whered u hide them? xoxo'

She felt herself age several years in that very moment. Slowly, she looked back up at Rio. "Your desperation is ruining my appetite. I’m finishing this bagel in my office."

Or, Jennifer Kale is the new school counselor, and everything is great. Well—almost. There's just one little snag. You know, the kind of snag that looks an awful lot like two emotionally dysregulated colleagues who can't help but make their situationship everyone else's problem?
