Mia Kelly had been, for a year, a wife. Then she was not.
She went to California. She took the dogs. She answered the phone when it was Grace and Jean and her mother and she did not, for three months, answer it when it was Jack. He wrote anyway. He sent books she would have killed for — a Keats, a Dickinson, a signed Millay — and he did not ask for anything back.
In January, she said yes to the Broadway run she had given up in 'fifty-five because a junior senator from Massachusetts had asked her to. She had always wondered. Now she would know.

Summary
Madrid, 1931. Bella is eleven when her father stops being king.
She is the youngest daughter of the King of Spain and an English princess, raised — in the careful, deliberate way these things are done — to marry a king of her own one day. The dolls are packed. The rosary is in her pocket. The country she was born in is, by morning, no longer hers.
What follows is Paris, then Rome, then a chateau above Lausanne where her mother learns to live without her father. By the time she is eighteen and standing in a borrowed drawing room in Knightsbridge, half of Europe is about to be at war and the other half is pretending not to be. The American ambassador has nine children. The fourth one is named Kick. She has two brothers home from Harvard for the summer.

Summary
Yavanna is a ranger from the North, with many years of traversing the wild under her belt, when her instinct calls her to Weathertop, telling her someone is need of her aid. There she finds a ranger and four hobbits, under attack by ringwraiths. But that isn't all she comes to learn in her night at the old fortress, when the gift of her people is also brought to bear, but she has no idea what that will entail and the adventure it will take her on.
This part of the story concerns the journey from Weathertop to Rivendell, and all that that entails.
