Summary
December, 1986. Hawkins is “normal” again (except for that whole interdimensional fissure thing), the world hasn’t ended in a few months, and Mike Wheeler is losing his mind over planning a middle school dance, a painting he can hardly look at, and the fact that his best friend keeps making his heart do weird, inconvenient things. This is probably fine.
or:
Mike and Will are tasked with planning the Snow Ball for extra credit in English Class. Easy enough... if Mike wasn't pining for his best friend (unbeknownst to either of them, of course).

Summary
Trinity proposed a real head scratcher. “As in we start a rumour swaying votes to the losing side, then swoop in knowing what we know and place all our money on the truth.”
Mel catches on and immediately perks up with curiosity. “Okay, um, who would he have an affair with?”
“Oh, sweet Melatonin, that’s where you come in.”

Summary
“Cute, but uh,” Frank chuckled at her act of sudden modesty, slightly mocked her even, “married—” he waved his left hand in the air “—you're obviously going through a lot right now, and plus, it wouldn’t be fair.”
Mel itched to say it was unfair now, with his dumb, tousled hair she wanted to tug, that cruel way he occupied her thoughts, and the fact that she couldn't kiss him without seeing his father’s face. None of it was fair to her. She never had the urge to balance the scales before—her life thus far had been tragedies and exits; she let them all go—until now.
So Mel said the thing she wasn't supposed to say.
“Not too sure if I like my boyfriend how I’m supposed to, or how I like you.”
Mel accidentally falls for her boyfriend's father.

Summary
Some nights were, naturally, worse than others.
Nights where Frank laid in bed for so long, staring at the ceiling, that it made his heart start to race with anxiety and his back ache and ache and ache no matter how he positioned himself. Nights where his thoughts spiraled out into worst-case-scenarios that seemed so vivid and inevitable that he would have to get up and go to the bathroom, just to turn the light on and look at himself in the mirror to remember what was actually real.
Those were the nights when he wanted the pills again the most: alone in his guest bedroom, trying to wring sleep out of his body like the last few drops of water out of a dirty dishcloth.
He tried not to call Mel on nights like that. He did not always succeed.
