    "We have newest member of the team with us today, as you all have seen.”

    Shane glanced up again, watching as the captain gestured vaguely toward Shane without looking at him. “Shane Hollander.” The name came out of his mouth like it was laced with poison.

    Shane became very aware of many eyes turning to him now. He felt a few claps on the back and tried to force a tight smile. But his eyes wandered back up to Ilya Rozanov, who was looking at him with so much quiet contempt, that Shane started to understand the phrase ‘if looks could kill.’

    OR: Ilya spirals into a deep depression when Shane breaks things off with him definitively after a horrifying run in with their feelings (and tuna melts).

    They go no contact for close to a year until Shane is unexpectedly traded to Boston the following season.

    Shane finds his new captain is a version of Ilya he's never seen before: dark, icy, and distant.

    But their newfound proximity mixed with old feelings creates a complicated dynamic that they can't ignore forever.

    Ilya crouched down until he was at eye level with Shane.

    He reached out and brushed his hand along Shane’s jaw gently. Shane’s eyes fluttered closed as he leaned into Ilya’s touch.

    Ilya watched it happen, how it was so instinctive… the same way Shane always softened immediately under his hands or when in his presence.

    “You’re so responsive for me, Shane,” he murmured, lifting Shane’s chin slightly to face him. Shane slowly opened his eyes to look at him.

    Ilya leaned in, bringing their faces close enough that he could feel the hot air from Shane’s breath.

    “So tell me something,” Ilya said quietly. “Does Hayden ever get to see you like this?”

    “Or is he just playing with my property?”

    OR: Hayden finds Shane after the MLH Awards in Vegas where Ilya left him sub dropped & hurting. Hayden makes Shane feel better and the lines between their friendship get blurred. Ilya gets incredibly jealous and fights to win him back. They all end up hurting until they learn how to communicate.

    There are both Shayden & Hollanov spicy scenes but *no threesomes* - This fic gets VERY messy and toxic but has a happy Hollanov ending!

    No one is going to win a Pulitzer interviewing him, and Shane is okay with that. He spends most interviews rephrasing the same five sentiments--I’m happy we won or We need to work harder after that loss.

    They are a good team; the win was hard fought or They are a good team; there is a lot for us to take away.

    And finally: I love playing on this team, for our fans.

    Then Ilya Rozanov bursts into his life, and answering questions becomes a little more complicated.

    From an early age, Richie Tozier learned the distinct and quintessential difference between talking his way out of a bind and talking his way through one. If you’re trying to use words to reason, well. Those words will most likely have to make sense. But if you’re talking a blue streak, ain’t no sense required. Just words. And Richie’s had words pouring out of him since the moment his trap flapped open and nonsense came out.

    It’s worked well for him a good… seventy-five perfect of the time. Well, zero percent if you consider none of his marriages have panned out, but his Initiation Rates are through the roof. Getting a woman, boy howdy, talking will get you there any day. Keeping a woman? That’s where the other twenty-five percent comes in.

    (Not to mention keeping… anyone else.)
