Summary
Bette and Tina knew each other before they were even born. They could have become lifelong friends, but after Tina's mother dies when Tina is six, she is adopted by her mom's best friend, Maxine Porter, so Bette and Tina are raised like sisters.
Except they're not.
Childish games, teen mischief, and adult life escapades: this could’ve been a love story hadn’t they walked away from each other. Now, Tina’s back in her hometown for the weekend—her “sister” is getting married.

“Mira,” Mía se hace oír, “el grupo de coreo no es diversión, ¿ok? Es para competir!”
“A mí se me hace que más bien a ti te gustan las chavas, ¿verdad?” Roberta le dice, mordiéndose el labio inferior y encarando a Mía.

“Are we insane?” Bette asks Tina, holding the pen on top of the paper, ready to sign the purchase. Tina looks into her eyes, and she finds a glow of excitement you hardly ever see in adults’ eyes, mostly in children’s—the look of pure joy. Bette’s question makes her smile because Bette’s eyes don’t show her any trace of doubt.
“Completely,” Tina answers, beaming and signing her name before Bette does hers, “we’ve completely lost our minds, and thank God.”Bette and Tina get a house in a fishing village in the northeast of Brazil.
