Summary
Vash watches as Legato’s hand trails up Knives’ face, carding his fingers through his blonde locks before loosening the tie holding his hair in place. Knives’ hair spills out in waves, an ocean of pale gold shining in the afternoon sun, and Vash feels desire and anger simmering low in his gut. Knives never kept his hair long. It stayed cropped and spiked up at all times when they were teenagers, and as much as Vash missed his hair— and as much as Knives knew that he did—he refused to grow it out, refused to let it creep past his ears.
But here they are now.

Sunburst. Legato dashed his hand across his eyes, then sank into the nest of wires. They crossed themselves like a bed of snakes. Protecting the sweet fruit that hadn't ripened yet. Their thick bodies supported Legato as he crossed the perilous distance and came to lay next to his savior.
"I've found him."
He spoke gently into Knives' ear as his voice slipped and layered over his breath.
"The one who put you here. I know you have your own ways to make this right." Legato felt heat funneling into his body from the gut. It spread outward, like a stain on cloth. He was stained. Human and vile. His imperfection couldn't be helped. When in the presence of a perfect being, how could he even pretend to be unsullied by his nature. He ignored the stiffness in his pants and pressed his lips closer to Knives' ear. His voice ghosting into him, hopefully touching the mind asleep beneath. "Your rebirth will be soon, when this body, too destroyed, will be returned to full glory. To witness it…" He shivered. "I will be there. My master. At your side when you return fully to us."

There’s screaming, whimpering. Someone choking on a breath before gagging. It’s him, it’s him. Oh god does it hurt, it hurts –
“It’s alright,” Vash shouts over the noise. “It’s alright, hold on. I think you’re just… You’re just…” He doesn’t have to say it for the both of them to know. The change in light must have sent Nai into heat. They’ve only seen it induced in plants, never on independents.
The thought that it’s happening to him enrages him only long enough until the urge to push overcomes it.
