“No way. You’re lying." Hyunjin laughed as they finished their meal.
“You do." When the check was brought to the table Changbin handed the waitress a credit card. “Usually when things are gross or weird. Your face gets all scrunchy."
“Scrunchy." Hyunjin repeated, deadpan.
“I don’t know how to describe it. It’s super animated, and cute."
“You must pay close attention if you notice things like that."
Changbin shrugged. “I like noticing things about you."
Hyunjin’s gaze lingered, something unreadable behind it. “Most people don’t."
“Well." Voice was low. Even. “I’m not most people."
The space between them grew quiet, yet still comfortable.
Hyunjin looked out the window, watching people walked by. “You’re good at making people feel seen."
Changbin watched for a moment with silent fondness. The way Hyunjin smiled, like it was some sort of secret meant only for the artist himself. The way his shoulders relaxed when he felt safe. “It’s easier when the person’s worth seeing."

Hyunjin and Changbin both feel like third wheels in their own lives. It’s only after meeting each other that they feel truly seen

“Can’t you ask someone? It’s not more than posing, right?”
Hyunjin feels like a spider in a glass jar and Changbin is a curious kid who plies him open, extracting his legs one by one. Hyunjin has thought about it, of course.
But he can’t.
“I can’t.”, he says, already preparing for the question of why that he has been asking himself for the past few weeks. Hyunjin has friends. But his heart brushes off the rope that it hangs itself with at the thought of asking for something. Nothing is horrible like being seen.
“I’ll do it, then.”
Hyunjin starts the last year of his art degree, and with it a friendship with a strange guy who offers to be his nude drawing model.

Summary
The Sunshade Revolution has attained its victory from the self-serving nobles of Tian. Xue Xiao Chen, former First Army General, finds himself at the mercy of his once rival and ally, Zhang Zhe Sheng, former Second Army General, leader of the Revolution and now Emperor of Tian.
Xiao Chen greets the Emperor on his knees, prostrating himself till his nose touches the floor. The Emperor's feet grow closer, and then halts.
He hears Emperor Zhang scoff overhead. “Such theatrics.” When Xiao Chen remains still, he snaps, impatient. “Get up.”

Summary

Cette œuvre d'une grande maturité refuse les facilités : pas de rédemption totale, pas d’amour possessif glorifié, pas de culture « supérieure ». Elle ose montrer la convergence vers un amour altruiste au milieu du chaos, la survie intelligente d’un captif, et deux mondes qui, malgré leur opposition radicale, se révèlent également humains dans leurs failles et leurs espoirs.
Hyunjin, en traversant les deux, devient le creuset où ces mondes se confrontent, se contaminent, se réconcilient partiellement dans ses enfants.
La complexité des personnages les amène parfois vers des points de convergence, mais aussi des points de bascule, certains perpétuant le cycle sans le questionner, rendant les failles du système d'autant plus implacables, d'autres, personnages gris entre allégeance et subversion, seront les architectes d'une tragédie, d'autres enfin, victimes innocentes, enfermées dans la tragédie, liens vivaces et subtils entre deux mondes, laissent présager un potentiel de renouveau.
Il s'agit d'un chef-d'œuvre. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
