You nod slowly, mulling it over.
Because it does suck. Because if your roles were reversed, you can’t imagine doing the same to Lin. You can’t imagine going radio-silent on her, disappearing like mist in the wind.
Because you care about her.
I thought she cared about me, too, you reflect as you stare down at your drink. Guess I was wrong. You wince slightly as the alcohol burns your throat, then finally gather your resolve and push your chair back from the bar. “I--”
Whatever you were going to say --whatever excuse you were going to make to leave--dies in your throat.
Because, right at that moment, Lin Beifong walks into the bar."
AKA you and Lin wind up in the same bar after breaking up, and things get petty.
