Summary

In his boyhood, Maekar had to take two steps for every one of Baelor’s as he followed his elder brother with a wooden sword in hand, occasionally whacking him across the calves. They are to grow old together and burn in the same pyre once their time comes.
A dream haunts Maekar’s stay at Ashford. Each night, he watches the death of his brother, and by the time he rises, the blood on his hands has dried a little more.

In the aftermath of Ashford, everyone lives, with varying degree of injury. In the year since, Maekar has not spoken to Baelor, has not forgiven him for choosing a stranger over blood. He has emptied Summerhall of everyone he loves and called it penance. When the king forces a marriage to seal the crack, Maekar brings nothing with him but his silence. Baelor tries anyway.

His heart fluttered in his chest as his uncle grabbed one of the pillows and hurled it towards him. Valarr swept past it but it sent him knocking his back against the sawed down table behind him and then sent him sprawling forward. He groaned slightly, one hand coming to rub at his back, "Truly, uncle? Am I truly such a terrible wife you would not let me bed you?"
"You should earn your right for it," The older man drawled.
Maekar Targaryen and his nephew-wife fight for who gets to top tonight.
