Summary
James Ogilvie came to Pittsburgh with one goal: securing a coveted Emergency Medicine residency spot at PTMC after graduation. He knew it wouldn’t be easy. He expected long shifts, brutal evaluations, and difficult patients. What he didn’t expect was for his biggest obstacle to come in the form of a barely five-foot-five, infuriatingly brilliant woman who absolutely hated his guts.
Victoria Javadi had one goal for her final year of medical school: survive it. Between grueling shifts in the emergency department, relentless pressure from her family, and the constant expectation that she excel at everything she touches, Victoria has no time —or patience— for James Ogilvie: the obnoxiously tall, arrogant med student who insists on turning every patient interaction into a competition.
But then Victoria gets cheated on, and one ill-advised night out and several other bad decisions turn into a secret rivals-with-benefits situation with the single most irritating man in Pittsburgh. Which would be far more manageable if James wasn’t unexpectedly sorta tolerable outside the ED. Or if somewhere during all of the nights they spend together, their carefully constructed rivalry hadn’t started to fall apart entirely.

But before she could step away and put space between this incredibly enticing decision she had just made, Jack dropped his hat onto her head. He tugged at the brim until it sat snuggly on top of her hair. She smiled brightly, stepping onto her tippy toes so that her lips could brush against the lobe of his ear. He shivered, and she relished in the power the reaction gave her.
"You've staked your claim, Jack Abbot," She whispered, breath hot and heavy in his ear. He smirked, nodding as his eyes caught hers.

Dennis turns to look at Jack walking towards him, ashing his cigarette on the sole of his shoe. He came up to the roof more often than, since that day. It felt like the only place he could truly breathe sometimes. He gets why Jack finds comfort here, staring at the skyline.
"I will be down in a second, Dr. Abbot I apologize, I was just catching some air." Dennis said, pushing his emotions under his skin, now wasn't the time. He knew he had things to do, his turbulent feelings could wait.
"Just Jack is fine when were alone, I think were past that now." Jack said moving to lean on the barrier, almost touching arms with Dennis.
"I had Shen cover report, we are free to go whenever, I came up here to talk to you actually." Jack continued. Dennis looked at the man beside him, quirked an eyebrow but kept quiet, waiting.
"I feel like I am suffocating here. I don't want to drown, I don't want to watch you drown either." Jack looked out towards the sunrise.
"What are you suggesting, Jack?"
"A roadtrip, a sabbatical, a break. If Robby got one, why can't we?"
