Those beautiful pools of warm brown slowly grew wider in the deafening silence that followed. They shone just as gorgeous as ever in the low lamplight – but the familiar lust, intensity, and playfulness Ilya so often found dancing within them were gone. Instead, he saw nothing but a hazy cloud of disbelief, doubt, and uncertainty.
“Holy shit…” Shane murmured softly.
Ilya just kept staring at him, waiting for him to say more. But all he saw looking back at him was that same terrified, wide-eyed stare.
And Ilya knew he’d made a terrible mistake.

Summary
Shane sighs, shifting, something spinning around in his stomach as he fumbles for his phone. The pale light of his lockscreen blinds him, his eyes wrinkling in a deep recoil. Before he can force his eyes to adjust to the harsh glare, his phone starts buzzing in his hand again. Repeated little hums, signalling a phone-call, not just a text. And, when Shane finally does peel his eyes open, he sees two things: It’s eleven-forty-seven, and Sonya is calling him.
That’s not right. She’s home, why is she calling him? “M’ello?” He says, confused and groggy.
There’s a rush of air on the other end. Wind, maybe. Or breathing, hard to tell. “Dad?”
OR - In a moment of teenage rebellion, Shane and Ilya’s daughter sneaks out in the middle of the night. She learns her lesson when she ends up in a car accident. Her fathers come to pick her up.
