In the early spring of 1996, Chris Redfield recieves a voicemail from his former squadmate, who tells him of an opportunity in Racoon City. It offered the job security that Chris had searched for since he was discharged by the Air Force a year prior, so he moves to the midwest to join S.T.A.R.S.. However, after only a few months, an arsonist kidnaps several patrons of the gay bar Moonlight Inn during a fire-induced panic. A lack of interest in RPD for solving the case forces Chris to pick up the slack, and due to the limited help available, he ends up negotiating his freedom with S.T.A.R.S captain Albert Wesker for his help in finding the culprit.
