Summary

Ben chuckled. What a cutie. An absolute darling. Elenor hadn’t asked for any toys, just her mommy and daddy. What more did anyone need, truly, than a loving family? It was amazing that a toddler seemed to understand the spirit of the season more than most adults. His heart squeezed with longing. He liked kids in general but this age, the terrible stage of emotional outbursts and blooming vocabularies, was by far his favorite.
What could he say? Between the big, non-communicable feelings and the constant need to nap, he related to them more than the older kids.
“No, sweetheart, a toy,” he grinned, helping her stay balanced when she stood up on his thigh. “Let’s ask your mom, maybe she can--”
Oh, shit. Oh, he really fucked up.
He wasn’t sure how but he’d made this mom cry.
