“Levi,” it’s a sigh, a mere exhalation of breath that happens to form the other man’s name. Levi— Levi looks furious, desperate, wanting, and devastated all at once, so many emotions warring on that normally expressionless face. “You know the answer.”
“Coward.” It’s almost too soft to be called an accusation, too sweet as Levi leans in, brushing his lips over Erwin’s neck. They’re soft, wet as he kisses Erwin’s neck tenderly, still while saying those words. “You’re a fucking coward, Captain.”

It’s like falling asleep. He stops shivering, stops feeling the bite of winter through his clothes. His mind goes gently quiet.
It’s just he and Levi, sitting in the woods across from one another, searching each other’s eyes. Levi’s smile comes on subdued, close-lipped and fond; it’s the last thing he sees.
A canon-divergent fix-it; Levi makes good on breaking Erwin's leg to keep him away from Shingashina after an attempt at seduction fails.

Summary
Levi’s thumb smooths some smudge of ash or dirt or other wrongness from the arch of Hange’s brow. He touches like he needs to make a memory of their skull beneath their skin. Levi’s intensity is a familiar fire to Hange, one they’ve passed through their hands hundreds of times. They’re used to deflecting it. To lie below it and feels its press, instead, they find it doesn’t sear in the same way they expect.
All they think, in the space between, is how Levi grasped their cloak at the port. How there was no letting go.
