Summary
Aegon has decided his end of the bargain is far overdue. As a reward for being an ever loyal servant to the crown, the king allows Criston to quench his decades old need for revenge.
From where Criston kneels, the strange angle allows him to indulge. To picture a different person in front of him. A Queen, perhaps, or even an estranged princess. The shape is right, almost terrifyingly so, but the scent is all wrong. He remembers Rhaenyra to smell of fire and blood, blood of the dragon through and through. Her son lingers similarly, but with a certain softness that Criston cannot decide whether he adores or despises.
All the same, it makes his head spin.
Rhaenyra was no omega, and the blood of the dragon ran through her veins far too deeply than anyone truly anticipated. It was something that Criston hated, something that Criston sought to destroy. That carelessness, that defiance. It consumed him until he was no more.
Here, Criston could believe that he succeeded in destroying it.

The conclusion of the Dragon’s Dance between Rhaenyra and her half brother Aegon has led to the deaths of many, with the rapidly declining birth rates only adding to the devastation loss. Wombs have dried and rotten like old fruit, babes taken from their mother’s arms by The Stranger without mercy. It is punishment from the Gods for plunging the realm to war, they say, a curse upon those who aided their mutual destruction.
Upon ascending to seat the Iron Throne, Aegon the Second of his Name has implemented a Repopulation Act in which all fertile omegas are to be distributed to high and minor lords, in order to save their lines from being extinguished.
Lucerys Velaryon is unfortunately one of the last omegas bearing fruit in his womb. Being of valyrian blood, his uncles have found it within their right to take what they deem necessary, for the future of the Targaryen dynasty.

Spider is taken by the RDA and after weeks of torture in the Neurosect, she proves stronger than she looks, giving up nothing about Jake or his family. Finding no further use for her within the RDA'S walls, they make plans to send her to Earth or leave Colonel Miles Quaritch in charge of what to do with her.
Her father plans to make up for lost time with his only child and uses this opportunity to get closer to her. This is to Spider’s detriment.
