Summary
“I’m yours,” Frank answers. “Do whatever you want with me.” Mel gazes at his lips, hungrily.
“If I kissed you, would it ruin everything?” she asks, her voice hushed. He swears he sees fireworks explode over her head, his vision tunneling.
“I think I’ll die if you don't,” he breathes. He watches her face register his words, her gears turning a hundred miles a minute. Her eyes flick back to his for a moment, sparkling like he’s divulged the secrets of the universe.
or: 2 failed dates, 2 medical emergencies, and one drunken confession later, Frank and Mel find themselves at a vulnerable turning point in their friendship. -

Summary
“You're beautiful, Mel. Does anyone ever tell you that?” Frank murmurs in the silence of the closet, his gaze flickering between her eyes and her lips.
She doesn’t know what she feels, but it is intense and hungry and clawing at the inside of her body. She wants to feed it, and she thinks that it wants to be fed, Frank. On second thought, she knows that it does.
“No, not really.” The blush on her cheeks spreads across her body, her neck, and then her arms, turning them hot and red.
Her eyes entrance Frank. His body aches to be closer to her. The distance between them is killing him. He is married, and he knows it’s wrong, but God, she is so sexy and sweet. Sickeningly sweet. The kind of sweet that gets stuck in your teeth. And God, does he want it to.
Acting on impulse, Frank finally speaks, “Is it ok if I touch you?”

Summary
She dips her head down, not looking at him directly, “Yes, sir.”
Just like that, Frank hears wedding bells. He’ll have her in a white dress in the church down the hill by week’s end. He leans down to catch her eye.
“No more of that, sweetheart. You oughta call me Daddy now.”

Summary
Mel King was a creature of habit.
There was a specific sort of choreography to her life beyond the chaos of the Emergency Department. A carefully controlled routine, a color-coded calendar, a rigid set of rituals that kept her grounded enough to keep showing up day after day, to keep on doing the work that was required of her to save lives.
Everything was going fine for Mel. Her personal life was predictable, unexciting, and perfectly fulfilling, thank you very much.
Enter Frank Langdon, agent of chaos.

Summary
“I thought you didn’t remember me,” she blurts out because of course she does. Because she can’t help herself around him.
“Would you rather have explained to Dr. Balhara where we knew each other from?”
