The other man tips the beer in his hand back against his lips and drains what's left of it. His throat flexes with each swallow, his lips forming a firm ‘o’ around the opening. Not that Jack is looking, of course. He simply happens to notice these details.
Setting the now empty bottle back on the table, Virgil relaxes back in his seat. “And what impression am I giving you?”
“Just… an impression.”
“Mmn.”

The command—and it is a command, even if the Banite attempts to phrase it as a request—gives him pause. Jack lowers his leg down to the floor, eyes narrowed. “If you try to put holes in me, I'll only return the favor, little lordling.”

And yet the worst is how Jack catches his eye from across the room, and for a moment that façade slips. He looks right at Enver with a smug look on his face, then turns around and leans into Jacen Oberon, or kisses the corner of his mouth, or laughs at something he’s said with such adoration it makes his skin crawl. Worse still is how he does it because he knows Enver is watching him.
Is this retaliation for not inviting him? If it isn’t that, he hasn’t the faintest clue what it could be retaliation for.
