Summary
The problem with Maverick, as Goose would tell you if you got him drunk enough, is that he’s incapable of doing anything halfway. Some might look at his showy flying and laid-back approach to classes and assume that he’s a slacker, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell threw himself into everything that he did with a kind of passion that begrudgingly impressed anyone who bore witness to it. Of course that would extend to falling in love, Goose would later think to himself, almost disappointed he hadn’t seen it coming. If only he didn’t commit himself just as fully to believing that love wasn’t reciprocated.
Or: Five times Maverick falls a little more in love with the Iceman, and one time Ice finally does something about it.

Summary
"Mav, baby," Ice starts, blunt fingernails scratching softly against his scalp. "I've been thinking."
"Mhm?" Mav feels like putty under the attentive touches, half-asleep.
"I've been thinking about how pretty of a wife you'd be for me."
OR
Some lieutenant, angry with Maverick and how Ice comes running to fix everything all of the time, calls him Ice’s wife in an attempt to rile him up. By doing so, he leaves both Maverick and Ice with something new to explore.

Summary
The Layton mission is scarcely two months ago and Maverick is doing great. He’s better than great. That’s what he keeps telling himself at least.
Maybe it’s because only person who can see through him is thousands of miles away.

Summary
For a second, getting in Sundown's face on the tarmac, it probably showed anyway. That he was already over the edge, clinging by his fingernails. That he needed something nobody was giving him. He hoped dimly for a minute that Sundown might shove him off, shove him off or even hit him. He wanted to be hit. He wanted to bleed.
It wasn't going to be as much as Goose had bled. But it would be something.
But Sundown didn't do it. He let Maverick walk away whole. Just like Viper, just like Charlie. Just like Carole. Just like the board of inquiry.
Then, in the locker room after, there was Iceman.
