Summary
“We asked for mauve,” Eddie says sharply and suddenly. He doesn’t mean to say anything at all, but the words force themselves past his lips and into the room before he can grab them back. “So, no, actually. Lilac isn’t acceptable.”
“Eddie?” Buck asks, sounding flabbergasted.
It’s unfair. Because they asked for mauve. Explicitly and multiple times. Eddie knows this because Buck had spent an hour talking to him about the cohesive but playful mix of mauve and sage green after a 48-hour shift, and Eddie had listened. He hadn’t fallen asleep like his body desperately wanted to, but he’d laid in bed, looked at the thousandth Pinterest photo that Buck had shown him, and nodded along because he liked how Buck had lit up whenever he showed a sliver of interest.
How hard is it to get the correct linens?
or: Eddie worries about Clipboard Buck’s appearance before their wedding and becomes a bit of a Groomzilla along the way.

Summary
“I’m mortified, Eddie, I really thought Buck would have talked to you about it,” Maddie says. She looks genuinely regretful, her eyebrows pulling together with concern. “Obviously, he clarified things for me, told me that he wasn’t pining for his straight best friend, and I’m just…I’m so sorry. It wasn’t my place to speculate on your relationship like that.”
There must be a worm that’s wrapped itself around his thoughts — that’s constrained his neural pathways to just the thought of Buck’s in love with you — because something takes over Eddie’s mouth. Something entirely foreign and jarring prompts him to say with too much incredulity: “Buck said he wasn’t in love with me?”
Maddie gapes at him.
Eddie snaps his mouth shut with so much force his teeth click.
or: Maddie tells Eddie about the conversation she had with Buck. Eddie spirals about it.

Summary
“It doesn’t have to be anything serious,” Buck quickly adds. He feels like a kid negotiating with their parents for an extra toy. He’s throwing out any idea that might land. “We can be like…friends with benefits.”
“Friends with benefits?” Eddie repeats. He places his hands on his hips, his biceps bulging with the motion, and Buck’s cock gives a valiant attempt at being noticed by twitching in his boxers.
Jesus. Buck might not survive this.
or: to stop Eddie from dating, Buck suggests becoming friends with benefits instead.

Summary
“What, even if I kill someone?” Eddie shoots back. It feels like he’s daring Buck — testing him, almost. Eddie can’t tell what he wants from this conversation, just that he wants.
“Even then,” Buck says, then adds, “Especially if it's your parents.”
“Buck,” Eddie laughs. His whole face feels flushed, impossibly hot. It’s hot in Texas, always, but he feels almost electric with it.
“Nah, Eddie, I’m being so serious right now, if you tell me you need to hide a body in El Paso, I’m there.” Buck’s laughing too, his head thrown back so the arch of his neck takes up most of Eddie’s screen. Eddie presses a thumb to the screen, where he could touch the dip at the base of Buck’s throat if they were together.
“Don’t be an idiot,” Eddie snorts. “I’m not going to ask you to hide a body, okay?”
Buck sighs. “I wish you would. We’d see each other again, at least.”

Summary
“I am so unbelievably sorry. I swear I’m never late, I just got caught up at work, and I couldn’t exactly leave an active fire for a date and — Oh.”
Once he settles into the booth, Evan meets Eddie’s eyes across the table.
Evan Buckley. As in Witness Number #1 at Eddie's disastrous first date. Maddie’s brother, Evan Buckley.
Fuck Eddie’s entire life.
“Diaz?” Evan says, looking a bit stupid with how wide his mouth hangs open. He looks over his shoulder like someone’s waiting to jump out and tell him this is a prank. Eddie envies his optimism. He’s long since accepted that the universe is actively out to get him.
or: Eddie and Maddie go on a blind date, Eddie and Buck go on a blind date, Eddie and Buck go on a blind date (again). It’s complicated.

Summary
For someone he'd hero-worshipped for so long, Steve Rogers in the flesh is a pretty big disappointment. For one thing, he keeps looking at Tony as though he reminds him of someone else, and even if he never says anything, Tony's pretty sure it's his father. A lifetime of not measuring up to Howard's expectations is more than enough, thank you very much, and he's certainly not going to make an effort to live up to any of Steve's. Steve's pretty clearly failed to live up to his expectations, in any case, and that's not hypocritical at all.

Summary
“My dick is gone,” Eddie says, hushed but frantic.
Buck splutters, wide unblinking eyes still glued to Eddie’s crotch, eyebrows knit together harshly and dragging high on his forehead. Eddie would laugh at his ridiculous face if he didn’t feel like he was going to throw up. “It’s not gone, you have a—”
“Don’t say it,” Eddie warns weakly.

Summary
It’s a disaster. There’s nothing for Eddie to do now but rip the Bandaid off.
“I’vebeenlookingatyourGooglehistory,” he says, all at once.
Buck blinks. “You’ve been what?”
“I’ve been—” Eddie breaks off with a huff, and then forces his eyes back up to Buck’s. “I went to the Google home page,” he starts again. “To search the thing about the coupling nut. But then when I clicked on the search bar, the recent history was not mine, because—”
A look of comprehension has begun to dawn on Buck’s face, suddenly.
“Because I was logged in on the iPad,” he says slowly.
