Summary
Takumi remembers the blackout, the empty cage, and the silhouette tearing across the schoolyard to approach the wall of fire. He remembers racing after that retreating figure, and the shock of his infuser in his chest interrupting his sprint, and then the drum of his boots pounding the earth as he hunted the traitor's path after tailing him narrowly through the gap in the flames.
When Eito makes his escape from Last Defense Academy, Takumi chases after him.

V’ehxness held her hand out expectantly and Aotsuki handed her the key he’d pocketed earlier. Then, with a bemused chuff, she hooked the toe of her boot under Takumi’s chin and lifted him up from his groveling position. The grin that split her face in two was nothing short of menacing. Takumi’s heart pounded in his chest, screaming at him to fight or flee, but he was in no position to do either. All he could manage was meeting her intense stare with his own and hoping it didn’t wither with fear.
“I wish to test the true extent of your power outside of combat,” she continued. “Typically, this would be achieved through torture… but my intellectual curiosity extends beyond what is typical.”
