Summary
Sam glanced over the mottled bruises and thick scars wrapping around his torso, accompanied by a hollow stomach and protruding ribs. Dried blood coated his side, spilled from a large gash in his abdomen. Tremors ran up his spine, making him fight so hard to sit still under Sam’s hands. His tearful eyes refused to make contact, like he was afraid of what would follow if he did.
Like this, he didn’t seem so scary. Just… fragile, like tempered glass beneath the threat of a nail.
Or: Sam stumbles across an injured and fearful man in the middle of the night, one month after Triskelion. After bringing him back to his apartment to treat his wounds, he realizes just who — what — he's brought into his home.

Summary
During a raid on an AIM base, the Avengers find a pair of cryotubes in a basement laboratory. When they release the men inside, they find that they are none other than the Winter Soldiers, the assassins so mysterious that most people in the Intelligence community consider them little more than a ghost story. However, as they learn more about the Soldiers, Sam and Natasha begin to suspect that the Soldiers may not have been operating under their own free will.
Soldat and Kapitan wake from cryo to new handlers unlike anyone they've encountered before. Captain Wilson and Agent Romanoff seem to have no interest in hurting them, wiping their memories, or sending them on missions. I LOVE THEM!!!!!!! especially loved them figuring things out with each other and reassuring each other and such,,, it's so sweet and kind,,, the two of them protecting each other even while they're under the impression that they're still being handled <33333333 and sam and natasha are wonderful in this fic i love everybody's characterizations

Summary
Bucky is delirious, paranoid, and physically trembling - barely holding onto reality, really - after he frees himself from HYDRA's shackles, motivated by something he's forgotten. He can't get back what he has forgotten. He doesn't even remember what he wants to get back!
He can't remember. All he can do is keep moving. Until he can't. Crashing when the different cocktails of drugs HYDRA forced into their weapon to keep it functioning correctly (with various uses from lulling it into obedience after finding its feet enough to try to disobey again all the way to shots of drugs that it’d be given mid-mission, helping it to stay awake and alert, even if the weapon was running on empty) still within its system are finally burned through. And he isn’t able to outrun the symptoms of withdrawal like he was trying to run from his captive past.
However, at least Steve has impeccable timing; finding him at this make-or-break moment and coaxing him back into the light.

Summary
There's a lot of expectation attached to Steve Rogers' name. It's taken him years to prove his own worth - that he's made it so far in the USNA on his own merit and not just because of his father. He's close though - there are only a few more months until he graduates and gets to stand on his own two feet. It's taken a lot of effort to get there, and a lot of sacrifices.
Bucky's beyond the point of expectation. When your father and grandfather have both been President - and your mother nurses political ambitions of her own - brilliance is a foregone conclusion. He's just counting down the final months of his confinement to the glass cage of the White House and he's determined to put that whole world behind him.
But as the days standing between them and their dreams dwindle, Steve comes to realize he might have made one sacrifice too many, and Bucky learns that his freedom comes at a cost he's never going to be able to pay.
