    Summary

The warehouse stinks of rot and rain, a metallic, earthy scent that settles heavy in his lungs.

For a moment he pauses there, letting his eyes adjust to the dim darkness and straining for any sound. If Fisk’s intel could be trusted, the target was here and had been for days, laying low.

A heavy hitter, Vanessa had said, lip curling in displeasure. Pledging loyalty to an unknown party. The directive was simple: Get rid of them before they became a problem. She’d recommended exercising caution and urgency, and from the stiff way she’d held herself, he would guess it to be a personal matter.

"For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life." - Leviticus 17:11.

With his own blood flooding into Poindexter's veins, warming the man's weakened body and mixing into his system until there was no separation, Matt wondered if the shitty hideout could be considered an altar, and if either of them would ever find atonement.

    Summary

The plea tears out of him before he can stop it, too open, too hurt in a way that spills shame through him to mix with the desperation.

    “Please.”

Murdock doesn't seem to plan on stopping this time and Dex’s throat squeezes shut, mind racing. There's only one thing left to leverage, a truth that's shadowed by an omission that complicates it, turning into a manipulation.

“They'll keep it,” he forces himself to say. Murdock halts again though he doesn't turn back to Dex, and Dex doesn't look away this time, even if he wants to. Keeps his gaze on stiff shoulders and clenched hands as his stomach churns and his Omega whines pitifully in the back of his mind.

“If I don't die. If I…” He hates it. Hates of all it. But he has to push the words out. He knows Murdock had finally sensed it when he'd drawn close enough, had seen the subtle pinch in expression as the man had drawn a slow, deep breath. Dex knows if there's anything he could care about, it might be this. “If I carry to term. The Fisks. They’ll take it. They'll raise it as their own.”

    Summary

Benjamin Poindexter has been a defective omega his entire life. Too violent, too erratic, too unstable, too needy, too much. An omega whom no alpha would ever be able to handle, Dex had stopped trying to find someone to belong to a long time ago.

So naturally, it stands to reason that he experiences the first heat he’s had in years while chained to a cot in Matt Murdock’s hideout. Because he has nothing if not terrible timing.
