"Did you know, the closer you are to lightning depends on how long the thunder takes to sound?". Eddie started counting once the lighting struck. It was seven seconds, and he counted it on each of Steve's knuckles, repeating only three.
"That's about two miles away," he explained. The next one was a mile away, and the next one a mile and a half. Eddie counted each one on Steve's knuckles, mindlessly caressing his hand and his wrist with his other arm. He would announce how far each one was, and it wasn’t so scary when Eddie was speaking to him like that, in that voice he only ever heard him use with him. It was soft, and quiet, because he knew Steve didn’t love loud noises.
Or; Steve is scared of thunderstorms, Eddie comforts him.

His fingers combed through Viktor’s hair, down over the curve of his cheekbone and back under the duvet. Settling on the curve of Viktor’s stomach, Jayce’s hand splayed out and his thumb brushed back and forth, slow and steady.
They laid there in silence for a few minutes, caught in the delicate, light slumber that only a winter’s early morning and a warm bed could bring. A cardinal sang outside, greeting the rays of sun that began to make the frost on the window panes gleam.

Summary
The Machine Herald’s relationship with the Viktor of this universe is complicated, to say the least.
Viktor’s an emotional wreck. He bites back smiles at the Defender’s every joke and fondly recalls the Herald’s previous visit and leans into his Jayce’s touch like an eclipsed moon doting on a planet.
Perhaps it’s not so complicated, actually. What the Herald is feeling more than anything about the ghost of his former self is disappointment.

Summary
The water was warm, Steve recognized. The hands touching him, running through his hair, gently stroking his skin were warm too. It was weird, in a way, to be surrounded by such warmth; such love, as he remembered it to be. Normally the water felt cold as it pooled around his feet, running off his shoulders in fat droplets. Even with the shower knob turned to be almost as hot as the water heater allowed for, it still chilled his bones and sent shivers down his spine in graceless waves.
