When his brain is fuzzy with endorphins and adrenaline. His face is warming, red like poppies, almost the same shade as the irritated skin around the cuts that frame his face.

It was a moment that seemed to last forever. They were so close that Luke could feel a shaky exhale from Nick on his upper lip, and vice versa. He wanted… he wasn't sure what exactly he wanted, but so far all signs pointed towards his best friend inching closer.
But with a sharp inhale, Luke rested his head on the hay below it, creating distance between the two. Nick accepted it, leaning away with an unreadable expression. If Luke knew any better, he'd say it was somewhat of a disappointed expression.He's drunk. They're both just really drunk. That's all that was.
