Robin showed up at her door on a Thursday afternoon, no warning, and said, "Want to walk?" Nancy grabbed her jacket without answering because the alternative was sitting in the living room while her mother and Joyce Byers made small talk and pretended everyone was fine, and Nancy would rather freeze to death than do that for another hour.
OR: Hawkins fall 1986. Nancy breaks up with Jonathan, Robin wears an insufficient denim jacket through a supernatural winter, and they both pretend they're just friends right up until they're not.

Summary
Joyce and Hopper get married in the brilliant heat of July. The sun shines down upon the beachside venue. A beautiful arch covered in lilies sits off in the distance, the sea lapping up on the shore behind it. Nancy watches the glimmers atop the waves as they roll in and drift out. Listens to the sounds of the wedding guests milling about the beach house that would become a reception hall after the ceremony. It’s lovely. The whole scene is lovely.
A body eclipses the view, but Nancy sees who it is. The view is still lovely.
“I missed you!” Robin says, pulling— yanking— Nancy into a crushing hug.
Nancy grins, her smile hiding in the mess of Robin’s hair. “Missed you, too.”

It must have started during one of their matches side by side; all she knows is that she ignored it for as long as possible, so it grew, and grew, and grew, until it was too loud to ignore and also too strong to control. At this point, the situation isn't 'Liv has a crush on Rhea' anymore; it's rather 'the crush on Rhea has Liv'.[ Heading back to the hotel with a long face and a baggage of gloomy thoughts, Liv runs into an equally sullen Rhea. The night takes a turn for the better neither of them expected. ]

“How are you comfortable like that?” Nancy asked, looking through the dark at how Robin layed perfectly still on her back, hands steepled atop her stomach.
After a few moments, Robin answered hesitantly for a second before the words started pouring out, “I’m not, I normally sleep on my side but there isn’t much space-” Nancy grabbed her hand, endlessly endeared, and turned. She pulled Robin’s arm around her waist so that she was spooning her, winding their fingers together where Robin's arm fell naturally at her stomach.
“There.” She murmured softly.
“Right. Thanks. That's perfect- I mean- not perfect just- better,” Robin choked out. Nancy could feel her heart hammering against her back.
She smiled.
