“You’re right.” He catches his head in his hands, and despite the distance, Taeyong hears the sharp exhale he lets out. Taeyong doesn’t know if it’s because they haven’t seen each other in two years, but it’s such an unnatural move on Doyoung that he would think it was staged if not for the tremble in his voice. “But if I have that excuse to blame my stupid decisions on, then I guess I’ll go all the way.”
Taeyong feels like he’s choking, and he unconsciously tugs at the neckline of his shirt. His words come out quiet, barely a whisper. “Where are you going with this?”
Doyoung lifts his head and looks him in the eye. “I miss you.”

Ridiculously gorgeous. The first fic that I read that showed me fanfic could be on the same level as serious literature. The prose is achingly lovely, unabashedly sentimental, and will make you fall in love with second person POV. The philosophical musings are wonderful too. Great exploration of post-canon. Prepare to hurt and gratuitously cry. So good, there aren't enough postive adjectives for me to use to describe this. Love, love, love.

Taeyong blinks, trying to imprint the man's face into his memory, the minor facets of expression as he blinks water out of his eyes, as drops run down the gentle curve of his cheekbone, down the smooth column of his neck. He tries to imprint into his mind the way the cold eyes are alive, moving, watching him with an intensity that scares him to his core, because gods, how many times has he wished for these eyes to meet his own gaze?
How many times has he wished to be looked at too?
“I know you,” he repeats, voice almost nothing in the silence of the night. “I’m in love with you.”

“No sir,” he answers, poker face perfectly in place, “Haven’t seen him for a few days now. Last I heard, he was heading East.”
Maes chokes. “Don’t look at me,” Izumi says, “I’m just a housewife.”

This whole exchange captures why this fic is GLORIOUS. It blends humor and sadness perfectly. You'll be laughing one more and sobbing the next. The back and forth banter with Izumi is the best (so witty and so so good). And how could you not fall in love with Ed in this fic??? He just bowls you over and steals your heart like the scamp he is.
