Summary
There were three possibilities:
One: Jon was telling the truth—and so were Damian’s memories—and Damian’s childhood best friend really had been abducted at age eleven by a mysterious woman who had made everyone forget he ever existed, even his own father.
Two: Damian’s memories were accurate, but the thing Damian had met in the park was not Jon, and was using his memories to manipulate Damian for some nefarious purpose, presumably connected to whatever had made Jon disappear in the first place.
Three: Jon Kent had never existed, and the thing in the park had implanted those memories in Damian’s mind—again, for nefarious purposes.
It was tempting to believe in the first option. Damian’s memories of Jon were so clear: clinging to Goliath’s back and laughing as they soared through the night sky. Crouching by his open window, daring Jon to be bad for once and sneak out. Swearing to Superman that he would protect him.
If Jon was real, Damian had failed profoundly to keep that promise.

Jon swallows hard, running through the list of possible subjects. The Riddler he thinks he could handle. Harley Quinn might be a bit harder but surely he can garner some sympathy points with her. Poison Ivy? He’s as good as dead.
“Who is it?” he asks nervously. “The Joker? Batman?”
Kon shakes his head solemnly.
“Themselves.”
