Just one hand—broad, steady—sliding around her wrist like a blood pressure cuff. His thumb pressed lightly to her pulse point, and there it was. Fast. Strong. Unhidden.
She didn’t pull away.
His voice, when it came, was quiet enough to disappear under the hum of the fridge behind them.
“Tell me to stop,” he said. “And I will.”
Heather didn’t answer. Definitely not aloud because she didn’t need to. Because her fingers curled slowly around the edge of his palm and held on.
