    Clint's voice crackles to life over the two-way radio, dripping in pseudo-cheerfulness.

    "Today on The Everything Sucks Show: We're still running low on, well, just about everything. The weather forecast is a 90% chance of acid rain and nuclear fallout followed by a 50% chance of something else fucking awful by this evening and some nice nuclear winter after the sun goes down. In current events: a new contender has taken the number one slot on the ‘most likely to kill us in our sleep’ leaderboard and his name starts with ‘lo’ and ends with ‘ki.’ The reigning champion Natasha Romanoff is understandably furious about this development..."

    Tony glances over at Loki in the passenger seat, his long legs propped up on the dashboard and arms crossed across his chest as he looks out the window. There’s a peeved frown hovering on his lips and that’s more than enough reason to leave Clint's fake news broadcast playing as their rag-tag convoy drives through the California desert, kicking up a billowing cloud of dust as they go.

    A post-nuclear apocalypse story about meeting fallen gods in abandoned shopping malls, desert road trips and finding the future in unexpected places.

    Months after the Avengers' dispute in Germany, the team returns to the US and moves back into the tower. As always, everyone pretends that nothing happened. Tony is just fine with this. He's used to pretending, and he'll be damned if he lets any of them see him flinch.

    Tony's the bad guy, after all. He's used to it. He's fine with it. He's good at it.

    Only now, there's something far worse loitering around the tower - The Winter Soldier. No one notices the guy at first, but when they do, Tony figures that he should have the soldier's back.

    Birds of a feather should flock together, and the bad guys should start a book club.

    Tony swept his gaze over the jacket. It was well used, heavily worn down, but not in a bad way. The fabric felt softened over years of use, and the slight discolorations seemed to suit it. Tony could see the marks left over from the previous owners. A small patch, sewn perfectly in neat little stiches on the inside breast pocket screamed of Steve’s steady hands, while the fraying on tails remained as evidence of Bucky’s impatient tugging.

    Or, Steve and Bucky gift Tony with their jacket that survived from the 1940's.

    Turns out that wasn't the only thing that survived.
