Summary
7 years later, life is different; cells renewed and all.
Mike, after overcoming depression, has been writing the second volume of his fantasy book. Indianapolis isn't all too bad.
Graduating from Marian University has qualified him to teach. And the comfort of a calm universe was nice, most of the time.Soon, he'll be closer to something better. Closer to home.
William Jacob Byers. The move from Hawkins was rough; really rough. But unlike California, this time he got to live a free, adultish life, with new friends, NYU, potential lovers and his siblings. He was painting and selling, studying– finally meeting the long awaited therapist. The occasional illustration for indie magazines was also great fun.
Even in the moments where he felt infinite; sometimes he felt like he was dying. He felt like something was missing – like a missing jigsaw piece. Or was it the entire puzzle that was missing?
Sure, he had support. A shrink, even. And yet the quivery, winter-cold fears remain.

Summary
Set in the spring of '91, Will wakes up from a unfathomable, lengthy dream of Mike’s death. But it's a decade into the future, and only a dream. But waking up, he realizes that they haven’t been married for years. They are still the clumsy, confused 19 year olds, navigating their lives in inner Manhattan.
And before a trip home to Hawkins, things get a whole lot more clumsy and confusing.
Or..
After Will's nightmare, things unfold paralleling it. An art assignment awkwardly turns into a success, friends bond, some kiss. But Will fears somewhat that Mike's suicide will follow, even being decades into the future, and desperately tries to make sure it doesn't.

Summary
Will Byers is happy. For maybe the first time in his life, truly, entirely, happy.
And that’s just the fucking problem.
Will Byers is happy, at least he tries to be. He has new friends, a new home, and most days manages to lead his new life in New York without thinking too hard about Hawkins. But he’s going home for the holidays, and without meaning to, old feelings and old links begin to resurface, causing just as much pain as Will had felt as a teenager.
Mike Wheeler is a boy who thought he'd moved on. But when his old best friend comes to stay in his basement over Christmas, he can barely survive with the new tension Will Byers brings to every interaction.
