Summary
Shane Hollander likes his routine as a graduate student in the chemistry department at the University of Toronto. He gets to lab early, he plays intramural hockey once a week, he monitors the use of the department's nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer every Monday night. Just a couple more years of keeping his head down and he'll graduate with his PhD. That is, until a new research group arrives: one that includes brash Russian graduate student Ilya Rozanov. Rozanov is loud and charming and popular and annoyingly, just as good at chemistry as Shane. And for some reason, won't leave the department's most boring, serious student alone.

Summary
Shane Hollander is a man who thrives on structure, routine, the solid ground of a ten-year plan. Ilya likes that about him, likes the embracing squeeze of having a life organized in tandem with Shane.
No one would call Ilya a man who thrives on structure. But it’s there, if not in his DNA then in the patterns of his brain. A call-and-response of: they do this, I do that.

The room is silent except for the beeping of monitors.
In 2023, Shane takes a bad hit on the ice. When he wakes up, the last thing he remembers is a tuna melt.
