1977:
Marco Bodt, 19, and attempting to make a name for himself in the music industry, he moves to New York City. After all, what's the saying? If you can make it there you can make it anywhere? It can't be that hard.Jean Kirschtein, 18, and just trying to make sure his pop's inn doesn't go out of business from the man's complete lack of financial managing before the 80's swing in. Jean reeks of peroxide bleach and accounting books.
When Marco begins his stay at the Kirschtein's inn, things get interesting as he begins to explore the city and start a whole new life for himself, with new friends, opportunities, and the crotchety Jean.

Albedo’s gaze sharpens and he sits bolt-upright. “Who told you that?!”
“Nobody told me. I figured it out for myself,” Aether says. “The Skyfrost Nail on the peak of Dragonspine mountain is one of the deadliest drop-offs in the world. It’s actually illegal to ski it because of how many people have died trying. And it was trying to ski the Nail that cost your brother his life.” His eyes meet Albedo’s, shimmering like twin pools of liquid gold. “That’s the reason you’re here on Dragonspine, isn’t it? You’ve been training these past two years—practicing so that you can ski the Nail. And I want to film you when you do.”
Or, in which Albedo is an Olympic skier, Aether is a filmmaker, and everything begins and ends at the peak of Dragonspine.

Summary
The scenario that was presented to them, was frightening and absolutely not what Jean had expected. Over a dozen people were literally stumbling inside and pushing each other, but neither Marco nor Jean believed it was because they were fleeing from something. On the contrary, they seemed to search and apparently they found whatever they were looking for. Besides their growling and gurgling, which was already making them inhuman, their eyes were the most strikingly characteristic. Despite the fact that they were still kind of far away, it was impossible to not notice the white eyes of those bursting in. They couldn’t really focus, but still seemed to see.
What happened to seem like a movie experience, continued to be one.

A different ending for my canonverse fic "To Everything There Is A Season" (originally based on kaa-05n2's drawing for Jean's birthday, in fact). If Marco and Jean joined the Military Police just as they planned--no battle of Trost, no death, no Titan transformations--what kind of people would they become?
Or, Jean and Marco learn what it is to grow up.
