Summary
After asking one question too many regarding Caine over a game of cards, Pomni finds herself alone with the ringmaster thanks to Jax. Pomni is then dragged through an old adventure with Caine as her unabating tour guide.
“Curious about Caine, huh?” Jax drawled, eyes opening slightly to peek at Pomni.
“You were eavesdropping?” Pomni asked, thumb pointing back to the table.
Jax scoffed, rolling his eyes as he bent down to Pomni with both hands on his hips, “Please, I just happened to be passing by after leaving a present for dear ol’ Ragatha,” Jax said following Pomni as she walked towards their living quarters. Pomni was too tired to deal with whatever Jax was cooking up. She wanted to get to bed and faceplant onto her covers before the next call to adventure happened. Jax straightened up, smile momentarily dropping from Pomni’s lack of reaction. Jax does a cartoony shrug, walking ahead of Pomni in long strides, “Oh, I get it, us humans just aren’t enough for you anymore.”
Pomni stopped, “What’s that supposed to–”

Jax mustered up the energy to travel back to his desk, plopped down in his chair, and threw the notebook down in front of him. It fell open to the page labeled CAINE’S KINKS.
He grabbed a pen and tapped the tip of it against the page a few times, before making a few edits.
This is not a love story. This is a revenge story.

The author is more interested in the idea of Caine and Jax being narrative foils than she is in the idea of them having a genuinely abusive relationship. This story includes some spicy bits that are easily skipped - though you might miss some slapstick and character development if you choose to avoid them. This story is mostly comedy, though that might just be to make the tragedy hit all the harder. After his humbling therapy session with Zooble, Caine is left questioning a lot of things. About himself, about his purpose, and his place within the digital circus. After a heart-to-heart with Pomni, Caine resolves that he wants to become more than just what he was programmed for. What he isn’t sure of… is where to start. Pomni suggests Caine should start by simply allowing himself to feel more, and a bizarre chain of events is set into motion.

Summary
Gangle and Zooble had immediately run off to who knows where when Caine announced the update had gone live. Pomni didn't know what Jax and Ragatha's reactions were—Jax had left the moment the AI said the word "sex" and Ragatha had left after the word "npc." She hadn't asked the next time she saw them because... quite honestly, she didn't want to know. Kinger had patiently listened to Caine explain the mechanics of it all and then politely declined—he didn't want to imagine being with anyone other than his wife, and that ship had already sailed years ago.
As for Pomni herself...
Well.
So far she was having problems.
