    "Something else?" Adrian turns their body in curiosity. They consider the reality of meeting another lifeform, of making first contact with an alien species. For what has to be the 1,000th time, Adrian thinks of their mate. ♪♫♪♫ would love to be here, clamoring for the opportunity to connect with intelligent life. They felt their vents flare with the weight of their grief.

    "Yes, something else," their coworker, ♪♪♪, turns to their radio and twists a few knobs and adjustments until a strange voice spills out into the open air.

    "Hǝllo¿ Ԁlǝɐsǝ¿ ∀ʌǝ dlǝɐsǝ I ƃoʇ ʇɥǝ qox' ʎon dɹoɯᴉsǝp' ʎon dɹoɯᴉsǝp ᴉp qǝ ɟɹǝǝ˙ I pᴉp ǝʌǝɹʎʇɥᴉuƃ ʎon ɐsʞǝp˙ Ԁlǝɐsǝ' qɹᴉuƃ ɯǝ nd˙" it cried out desperately, and despite the fact Adrian couldn't quite understand what it was saying, their fear and desperation transcended language and species.

    "Oh," Adrian finds themself becoming very, very still.

    Rocky has officially moved into Hail Mary with Grace, but he's still dealing with the aftereffects of living nearly fifty human years by himself. By chance, he finds himself singing with Grace, and it's clear Grace doesn't fully understand what that means for Eridians.

    This story roughly follows the plot of both the book and the film, but Rocky and Grace's personalities are more reminiscent of the book. Furthermore, Rocky's speaking style closely follows the book, although his physical appearance is closer to his depiction in the film.

    "Whoaaaa" Grace couldn't help but rush out, like a little kid seeing the museum for the first time. Endless fascination for everything he didn't understand as it was demonstrated right before his eyes.

     

    Also like a little kid, Grace got antsy after the first few seconds.

     

    "How long is this supposed to take?" Grace ignored how whiney he sounded as he asked. It didn't stop him from tacking on a childish; "Ugh!"

     

    "Collector should be here soon," Rocky responded at the same time the impact of the collector's collision with the winch forced another sound out of Grace.

     

    "Got it, its here!" Grace cheered, and he moved towards the winch now that the xenonite chain was no longer moving at approximately three times the speed of sound.

     

    "Amaze! Amaze! Amaze!"

     

    Something else hit the ship.
