Summary
This is going to be out of left field, a little bit. It involves the 616 Marvel universe and an alternate take on Hela and Thanos's storyline. Notes at the end on what happened, and how this diverges, if you are unfamiliar. I adore Hela as a character and I don't want to fix her, I just want to give her a chance to settle nicely into the gray, not-a-full-villain-but-definitely-not-a-hero area that some of the writers she's had have given her. I feel like this alternate take gets us there.

This started from a prompt involving variant lives and canon divergence points. What are some of the flashpoints that changed Darcy's trajectory, and where could that have gone?
Most chapters will be short, just a quick glimpse into the variant life. A couple will start with the same first few lines but end in different ways. The last chapter is the longest and most detailed. All chapters will be posted together.

The magnetometer rests in pieces. Wires are tangled, the dial removed, and the plastic covering cracked in half.
“Ahh,” Darcy says dryly. “You killed it.”
He taps his fingers against his thigh. “Old habits. Thought it could’ve been a security risk.”
It takes an awkward pause for her to realise he meant it could have been a bomb.
“Geez, man,” she says, looking aimlessly around the room and scratching the back of her head. “Your life until now must have sucked.”
