What is a monster?
Avid didn't know who he was. They tell him he believed in vampires, would shout it from the rooftops when he could, but he doesn't remember that. He can't remember anything, and this person they're describing, he isn't sure he likes it. Still, with chronic pain from a wound in his neck and the growing threat of vampires - who are apparently real, by the way - he'll need to figure out where he stands, so that maybe, hopefully, he can make it out of this alive.

Nom likes to pretend that the blood on his armour doesn’t bother him anymore, but often in the small hours of the night he finds himself by the lake, scrubbing at stains only he seems to see. This time, however, he ends up attracting attention from someone else who’s been struggling to sleep.
Eventually, Scott spoke.
“What’s…” He took a deep breath, “What’s wrong? You seemed like you were doing fine earlier.”
“I was,” Nom said, “But it gets dark, and…”
Scott nodded, like he understood the feeling.
“I think about all of the feelings- all of the things I can’t fix, all of the… when the night clings to me and all I can think about is how I can’t get these stupid stains out of my armour- and I just… I need to…”
“Yeah. I get it.”
