Percy can taste his mother's blue cakes if he presses his tongue to the roof of his mouth, pretends he's thirteen again and standing in the kitchen with the warm kitchen light falling on his shoulders and pooling around his bare feet. Pretends he's blowing out the candles as his mom sings. Touches her fingertips to his cheek and tell him that she loves him and that she would do it all again, if it ever comes to that.It doesn't do him any good to dream like this. All it does is make him homesick.
