He didn't know the lore. He'd spent his life on suppressants, reading hockey stats instead of Omega biology, studying playbooks instead of presentation pamphlets. He didn't know that if an Omega spent their first true, unmedicated heat in the presence of an Alpha who protected them, the brain didn't care about "hooking up" or "sexual gratification." The brain cared about safety. The brain cared about the one who proved, through the fire of biological imperative, that they would not hurt you, would not use you, would not abandon you to the wolves.
Or: after years of avoiding heats, his suppressants fail and Shane falls into early heat in the middle of hockey camp. Ilya finds him and takes care of him, while being terrified.

“What happened?” he asks, more alert now, “Where am I?”
Hayden just looks at him, shock and heartbreak written all over his face.
Or, post-marleau’s hit, shane ends up in the hospital. he ends up with a broken collarbone, concussion and a devastating loss he’d never anticipated.

Summary
Shane Hollander is bitten by Dallas Kent on the ice.
He doesn’t quite hit the mating mark. Not entirely. But the action is enough to start a revolution of the hockey league, where outdated laws about alphas and omegas in sports are questioned by the public.
Shane’s just trying to recover, having never wanted to be the centre of attention in a situation like this.
And Ilya, in between supporting his partner and captaining the ship of the proposed “Equitable Treatment Act” to protect omegas in sports, is out for Dallas’ blood.
