Summary
Kaveh takes on a commission to improve the structural integrity of the Fortress of Meropide in Fontaine, sending him on a week-long trip accompanied by his husband to analyze the site and develop preliminary designs.
Without much to do while Kaveh is working other than read quietly at his side, however, Wriothesley requests Alhaitham’s help to investigate an issue he’s having in the prison. Alhaitham reluctantly agrees and returns to their hotel room one evening donning the fortress guards’ uniform.
“You know I love you, right?”
“Yes,” Kaveh said impatiently, his head dropping forward onto the desk as he wiggled his hips. “But I said you can be a little rougher, Haitham, you -”
“Good,” Alhaitham interrupted, fisting a hand in Kaveh’s hair in a sudden tight clench and cutting him off. He grabbed one of Kaveh’s wrists and pinned it behind his back, holding him down as he leaned in to whisper directly in his ear, “Because I’m about to fuck you like I don’t.”
Or; Kaveh quickly learns he has a thing for men in uniform - as long as the man wearing it is his husband.

Summary
Kaveh regrets ever accepting this new commission. It is not the pay nor the project itself – both are to the architect’s satisfaction. No, the problem is the client and her obsession with Kaveh.
She believes them to be “destined for each other” and takes Kaveh’s rejection as playing hard to get. In his desperation Kaveh lies about having a boyfriend, a certain scribe he shares a home with and is oh-so madly in love with. Now he has to convince Alhaitham to play the part, when his client insists on meeting the “love of his life”.

Summary
After a rough start, Alhaitham and Kaveh have figured out how to navigate the latter’s unexpected rut—Alhaitham has successfully tricked his instincts into submission, and for the past several days, Kaveh’s instincts have been perfectly satisfied. Now his rut is almost over, and the remainder will be the easiest part.
Or, at least, it would have been easy, if Alhaitham’s body hadn’t suddenly decided to make things difficult.
“Don’t move,” Alhaitham growls, his grip on Kaveh’s wrists tightening. He needs to stop Kaveh, needs to—
A quiet Haitham breaks through the buzzing in his head, and he blinks, staring down at Kaveh.
Kaveh’s eyes are wide, chest rising and falling as he pants for air, and the sweet scent of his arousal is gone, replaced by something bitter and acrid.
Alhaitham licks dry lips and searches Kaveh’s face for an answer, unable to find one on his own.
“You’re in rut,” Kaveh breathes.

Summary
When Kaveh announces that he’ll need to temporarily stop taking suppressants, Alhaitham assumes that he must be an omega. After all, that’s the only logical reason that Kaveh would have pretended to be a beta for all this time. It’s the only logical reason that Kaveh would ask Alhaitham, an alpha, to leave the house for two weeks.
Except Alhaitham has made a rare miscalculation—and helping Kaveh will be much more difficult than Alhaitham expected, when his own instincts keep pulling him in two different directions.
“To clarify,” Alhaitham says, “you’re saying you’ll feel safer if I’m not here. Do I have that correct?”
“That—that’s not exactly what I said.”
“You said that you don’t know if it’s safe. That implies a degree of uncertainty, which means that you’ll feel less uncertain—and therefore safer—if I’m not around.” When Kaveh doesn’t respond, Alhaitham adds, “I’m just making sure I understand the situation correctly.”
“To be honest,” Kaveh says, “I don’t think you understand the situation at all.”

Summary
“What do you do with the flowers?”
Al-Haitham paused. “What do you mean?”
“Like, what do you do with the flowers you cough up? Do you keep them or…?”
He furrowed his eyebrows. “What—why would I keep them? I obviously throw them away. Why are you asking?”
“I was just wondering—I mean if you’re not using them—like, if I could possibly…have them?”
Al-Haitham stared at him incredulously. “You want my unrequited love flowers?”
“Yes?” Kaveh flushed red. “Since…since you’re not using them.”
Since you’re not using them—
“What the hell would I be using them for? What the hell are you using them for?”
Al-Haitham has Hanahaki disease and coughs up mourning flowers. Kaveh asks if he can use them for his ascension materials.
