Here’s the thing: Gunwook spent the last three years and an extra month on top of that trying to forget Taerae. He knew it was a futile exercise, but still he tried. He’d dated each girl that had asked him out, flicked through dating apps before he came here just to look for new faces to fantasise about, even tried physically going outside for a jog every time he thought of those dimples, those eyes, that smile. All useless. Now he was in front of Taerae again, Gunwook’s whole body lit up.
Gunwook has a long-standing, debilitating crush on his secondary school tutor Taerae, whom he hasn't seen in years. If he were honest, he would do absolutely anything for a chance to show Taerae he's become a man. Lucky, then, that they happen to meet again. Less fortunate, though, that Gunwook trips headfirst into a lie.

If Gunwook wasn’t rendered speechless, he would bite back, tell Taerae he should stop wearing those awfully tight shorts at home, too, because it wasn’t fair how pretty it looked, and his hand could never compare to how tight and plump and soft he imagined Taerae to be.
This was all part of a game he didn’t know they were playing, he figures. This cruel, cruel game of desire Gunwook didn’t know was mutual until now.

Summary
Gunwook spent the morning at the beach by himself, looking up at the sky, wondering what that gurgling, slimy feeling in his stomach was. Taerae was on the other side of the island, loading the boxes onto the cargo side of the boat and waving at his parents and his friends while the ship set sail, his eyes roving over the crowd countless times, simultaneously hoping and despairing to see Gunwook. He never did.
