Summary
"Hi, solnyshko.”
The Russian pet name set a firework off inside Shane's mind as he heard it cooed from behind him. The intonation was just as he remembered, but the voice was much deeper. He turned and felt himself short circuit. It took every ounce of willpower to not let his jaw drop cartoonishly to the floor. Shane would recognize his individual features anywhere, even after 5 years. But it was as if someone had snapped their fingers and the smug, silly Russian boy who had been attached to Shane's hip for 3 summers was transformed into some sort of fucking Adonis right before his eyes.
“Ilya-” was all Shane managed before strong arms were wrapped around his waist and lifting him off the ground in a greeting all too familiar from years ago.
OR
When Shane Hollander & Ilya Rozanov spent their summers as teens in an elite hockey camp, they quickly became inseparable friends. Summary
After so many nights of them leaving each other in impersonal hotel rooms or that specific condo back in Montreal, there’s very few things better than getting to lay here in Ilya’s arms and just luxuriate in being held by the love of his life. Luxuriates in the knowledge that he’s allowed to be so close, that Ilya would encourage him to get closer still, that he’s trusted enough for Ilya to rest around him, to lower his metaphorical walls down as he sinks back into the youth of his actual age, in sleep. Shane luxuriates in being wanted here, in Ilya’s space, close enough to count Ilya’s eyelashes.
Which – Ilya has one hundred and five on each of his eyeslids, by the way. Shane knows, he’s just finished counting.

Summary
“I think a big reason they don’t like me… is because I look like her,” Ilya said, struggling to get the words out.
“Who?”
“My father. And brother.”
Shane got closer and gently put an arm around him while listening, waiting for him to continue.
“I look– too much like a ghost.” Ilya murmured. “They resent me. I know my father did. I know my brother hates me.”
He wore her face. She had left, and he wondered if his father had wished he had left too.
Ilya felt a knot on his throat. “They didn’t like looking at me.”
Or, Before his mother died, Ilya loved looking exactly like her. Afterward, it got a lot more complicated.
