    Crowley was cursed as the Serpent of Eden by God to have to transform into his snake form and suffer his own personal torment of shedding through hellfire to be rebirthed about once every few hundred years. He's usually hidden himself away from Heaven, Hell and Aziraphale, but the Apocalypse-that-wasn't meant he missed all the signs and finds himself forced to undergo the torment with Aziraphale to witness.
    There is body horror and gore-heavy but not angst-driven for this story.

    There are a lot of downsides to being a snake, the rather uncomfortable, painful, and distressing process of shedding skin is one of them. Crowley tries to deal with it on his own just as he had been doing for the past six millennia, but unlike the last thousands of years, he is not alone anymore, and Aziraphale isn't going to let Crowley struggle through anything on his own. (This fic does have a sequel!)
