Summary
Christopher starts shaking more violently then. “Buck jumped back in the water for me.”
There’s a protocol for a lot of scenarios, both in the Army and as an EMT. Eddie is used to knowing what to do, and how to do it; who to help, and where. Yet now, hopelessness splits through him like a bullet. Eddie doesn’t know what else to do other than hold his kid tighter and press his lips to his temple.
“Is that– Christopher?” Hen asks over his shoulder. The tiny pocket of universe that he’s created with just him, his son, and Buck’s name battering in his chest unravels.
Still keeping Christopher in his arms, Eddie rises to his feet. “I made Buck watch him for the day to get him out of the house. He– he brought him to the pier.”
“Where is he, Eddie?” Bobby asks carefully.
There’s a protocol for a lot of scenarios, both in the Army and as an EMT, but not for this.

Summary
Placed after Chim punches Buck and the Balcony Scene, what happens when the rest of the 118 find out. Including lots of self-hatred from Buck, adoration from Eddie "Heart Eyes" Diaz and finally somene dealing with that Bobby/Buck scene from 1x04.
or:
Buck doesn't wanna get into the details of his shiner, the 118 is concerned, and Eddie finds out about the time Bobby shoved Buck into the wall. With (un)healthy amounts of author projection, Buck hating himself, and Eddie feeling helpless.
or:
Buck takes a deep breath and pulls off the cap, running a hand through his hair and not looking at anyone. He hears Hen’s intake of breath and can sense Bobby and Athena’s disappointment without even looking at them. Eddie’s knee nudges his. Buck doesn’t nudge back.
“What happened?” Bobby asks.
Buck shrugs. “It’s not important.”
“Boy,” Athena says, “if someone gave you a shiner that bad, it better be important.”
