Summary
"Is that...." Wylan squints at the ridiculously ornate plate that was, for reasons he could not figure out, in a drawer of Jesper's desk. "Is that from my father’s house?"
"Technically," Jesper says, holding the plate up, "It's from Kaz."
"Kaz gave you a plate from my father's house?"
"Saints, no. I stole it from Kaz."
"....After he stole it from my father's house?"
"Also technically, it's your house now."
Kaz steals a plate. Jesper steals it from Kaz. Wylan finds the familiar (and ugly) plate, and he joins Jesper in stealing it from Kaz. The rest of the crows find out, and soon they're all stealing a plate from each other.

When Wylan was eight, he felt true fear for the first time, found in the form of six simple words spoken from his father.
“Your mother won’t be coming back.”
"What do you mean? Why not?" He had asked, ever so foolishly.
Father frowned down at him, not a hint of the usual softness to be found. "She's dead because of you. Maybe if you weren’t such a disappointment she would’ve had a reason to get better, but instead you’ve killed her.”
That day was the first time Wylan had been yelled at enough to properly cry, and the day he realised Father had lost all hope for him to read.
OR: Wylan gets kicked out early, and is befriended by a strange boy with a bad haircut who teaches him how to survive in the Barrel.

A scheme to sabotage Pekka Rollin's new club goes wrong when Jesper spots Wylan, now indentured to Pekka Rollins after having been missing for months during which Jesper believed Wylan had abandoned him. Little do they all know that Kaz has a plan. A plan that will take down all of their enemies and make them rich beyond their wildest dreams- provided their combined turmoil doesn't get in the way. Provided they can learn to understand each other.
