Summary
There's a new gardener working in his father’s manor. Max immediately takes an interest in him and grows feelings. When he gets caught jerking off to him mid conversation, Max realises that he's not the only one who caught feelings.
Days pass and the flowers bloom. It grows with every conversation, every flick of interest, every rising sun. Max thinks that it's being fed from the love it's being surrounded with. Max can't help but look at Daniel in a love daze. He feels his heart race, fingers twitch, and stomach stir with arousal—sue him, he's got those teenage hormones.
Without a break in pattern, Daniel comes in at the early morning to converse with Max. When he realises that Max likes to talk to him far longer than he should be, he adjusts his rotation to still be finished with his tasks within the timeframe he was given. Max learns that he wakes up earlier to water the rest of the flowers earlier so he can talk to Max more. He complained only once before Daniel told him: “I want to talk to you too, Max. I don't like it when we have to cut our conversations short."

“Are you a little?”
Max's expression doesn't change when Daniel blurts the words at him.
He answers, “Yeah.”
Then he shrugs.
Like Daniel’s entire world doesn’t tilt on its axis with the movement. Like this information was obvious, or innocuous, and shouldn’t completely blow Daniel’s mind the way it does.
“What the fuck? Since when.”
“Since I was sixteen, obviously, Daniel.”
“I would’ve noticed,” he weakly argues. “There is no way I wouldn’t have noticed.”
Save for last week, never had Daniel’s caregiver instinct ever been set off by or around Max. There is just no way Max could’ve regressed around him. He would’ve noticed.
Daniel can’t be a failure at this, too.
“No one notices,” Max replies, “which is good. I am quiet when I regress.”
“What do you mean, quiet?”
“As in, I do not speak, Daniel.”

Summary
They don’t make it to dinner.
They mean to. Daniel promised the perfect night out — overpriced food, a prissy bottle of red, and sunset-warm sand under their feet after they’d cleared their plates. They've got a reservation timed with the sun and everything, going all out before they're tangled together for the two and a half days it will take to clear Max's heat.
“Let me see your eyes again,” Daniel says, positively sappy.
It makes Max laugh, rolling his eyes and turning his head to look over his shoulder at Daniel. That's his second mistake — the first being the choice to leave the bathroom in only a towel. Daniel looks radiant in the low light, all tan skin and dark hair, eyes half-closed in a gentle wanting. God, Max has never learned how to ignore that look and not be derailed by being the focus of such complete desire. Maybe that’s why he can’t keep himself from saying, “If you don’t stop looking at me like that, we won’t be making it to dinner.”
“Oh, Maxy,” Daniel hums, smile stretching wide. “You shouldn’t have said that.”
So, they don't make it to dinner.

There’s an irrational anger in him about not doing anything, something that bites at him like a mosquito until he’s half-mad and ready to run through a wall. He wonders sometimes, even if Daniel will never see it, if this is what his father has given him; quick hands, itching and aching with restless irritation.
Max keeps his hands so still and gentle they ache from the force of it and he kisses Daniel so that Daniel will stop looking at him with that faintly worried frown.

Summary
Charles was fifteen when his dæmon settled.
It was a perfectly average age to settle, and it happened so quietly and naturally that neither he nor Moira even noticed at first. They had other things to think about: today, they were aiming to beat out Ben Barnicoat and Max Verstappen at Val d’Argenton.
It wasn’t until they were getting into the kart that they realised. Moira normally transformed into an insect to race, something small enough that she could crawl inside Charles’s race suit and be protected as he drove. Today, she didn’t even try to change; they both just looked at each other, and knew.
“A mouse,” he said.
