Summary
Carter is an active drug addict and self identifies as ‘off center emo.’ Ford has 12 PhDs and is ~40 years his senior. Those are the only things they don’t have in common. Both insomniacs, they met at Greasy’s where Carter works the night shift and became fast friends over a shared love of shitty sci-fi TV shows.
The only thing that gets on Carter’s nerves is that Ford often dodges questions about his past. He says what Carter refers to as his catchphrase: “All you need to know was that it was the worst time of my life.”
When he goes on a walk before work and finds a tape measure in the underbrush, he finds out very quickly how bad of a time 1981 was.
