There was just no way this was his life. Summary

“Oh sweetie. I know, okay. Those fuckers, how dare they do this! Two fucking cups! Now all of a sudden they decide they want a reset and you’re going to fund it.”
Shane put his head between his knees and tried to breathe. God, Boston. They hated him there; it was so far away; he was fucking their captain.

Shane doesn’t know why he still feels so off-kilter. He should be the happiest he’s ever been—he won the Cup, he feels like he’s maybe starting to have a few friends on his team, and he’s finally starting to believe his parents when they tell him he won’t get traded again. He should be on top of the world, but sometimes he still feels like the lone defender on an odd-man rush, skating as fast as he can to prevent what feels like an inevitable outcome.
The problem is that he’s not quite sure which outcome it is that he’s trying to stop.

Summary
After getting fired from his job, Shane makes his night worse by kicking a rock straight into Ilya’s ridiculously expensive car. Broke and out of options, he’s forced into a month long deal with a cold man who loves being in control and the dented car quickly becomes the least complicated part of their arrangement.
Or: Shane gets fired, commits property damage, and ends up contractually stuck with the worst (and unfortunately hottest) man possible.

He turns, and yeah, this guy doesn’t look like much of a smoker. Ilya’s learned through time and experience that stoners come in all shapes and sizes, but it’s clear that he isn’t one: hair cut neat and short, straight-laced, brows furrowed into a scowl, shoulders all tight—too squared away. He’s probably not much of a drinker, either, if Ilya had to guess.
And he’s wearing a fucking suit, for Christ’s sake.
So boring, Ilya thinks, strangely delighted. He wants to take him by the collar and scruff up his hair, if only to see what he might do in response.
